Donations Needed for GECKOFEST Fundraiser
The Gulfport Merchants Association, a non-profit 501c3 organization, is seeking donations for the 8th Annual GECKOFEST Fundraiser. Donations will be tax deductible, and may include gift items, certificates, etc. The Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, July 27th from 3-7pm, hosted by Domain Food and Spirits, with a silent auction and chance drawings. A percentage of the proceeds from GECKOFEST will benefit the Aids Walk of St. Petersburg. If you wish to donate an item, please call 727-302-9299. 5501 Shore Blvd., Gulfport.
Gulfport's 8th Annual GECKOFEST is seeking participants for their quirky End of Summer Celebration on August 30th, 2008. Participants may include Community or Corporate sponsorships, Art and Craft Vendors, Street Performers, and Musicians. GECKOFEST attracted over 15,000 patrons in 2007, and is expected to expand again this year! The event is FREE to the public and features a variety of strolling street performers, main stage musicians, fun foods, and a plethora of purveyors with all types of weird and wonderful wares. Partial Proceeds from the 2008 GECKOFEST will benefit the St. Petersburg Aids Walk.

GeckoFest Welcomes Boaters! Dinghy dock available behind the Gulfport Casino Ballroom.
Join in the Gecko Walking Parade at 6:00 pm! Wear Gecko hats, fish hats, colorful hats and costumes to celebrate the many colors of Geckos! Bring drums, rattles, noise makers, kazoos, musical instruments, balloons, decorated umbrellas - just use your imagination. Join in or be a spectator - this parade is full of colorful surprises and characters! At the end of the parade, prizes will be awarded for the best adults, children's and pets costumes! Selected as "Best Bet," "Hot Ticket," "Hot Road Trip," AOLs top ten for Labor Day Weekend, and "Planet Pick," this locally cultivated festival is filled with whimsy and charm as is this quaint waterfront community. This FREE Event sponsored by the Gulfport Merchants Association, Bright House Networks, The St. Petersburg Times, GEICO, Gulfport Industrial Arts Center, the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and the City of Gulfport is a full day of fun for everyone. Proceeds will benefit the St. Petersburg Aids Walk.
This quirky celebration brings together strolling street performers, main stage performers and vendors with all types of weird and wonderful wares up and down Beach Blvd.
Enjoy the O-Fish-Al GECKO Goddess and the Gecko Court, the Gecko Governor, Belly Dancers Troupe Zahara and Hip Expressions, Barnaby the clown, Kim the magician, the Village Villains, Mime Your Own Business, The City of Imagination, The Thunderhead Floggers, West Coast Mutineers, and Bohemian Fire, who will all be roaming the streets and entertaining the crowds!
If you want to stay in one place…FREE live entertainment will be provided on three main stages from noon till 10 p.m. Musicians Include Karmic Tattoo, Sterling McGee, Gabe Whitney, Summer Towne and Free Range.
Additional activities include Sidewalk Chalk Art, Public Floggings, Rock Wall, Bungee Jump, Moonwalk, Face Painting. Drum Circle, and Belly Dance Lessons.
The day culminates in Gulfport's famous -STREET DANCE at 8:00 pm! Bring your dancing shoes and beach chairs!
